Gingrich Isn't Saying Something Crazy for Once! (Video)

In the Moms Matter segment with Newt Gingrich, he was asked to talk about his mother. The question was something that makes you think of your mom and how she has influenced you. Gingrich immeadiately got teary-eyed because his mother is no longer living. This surprised me, because I had never really seen Gingrich even act like he had feelings.
He right away went into telling the audience that his mother was a beautiful singer in the church choir, and that she made him sing in the choir when he was very young. He then started telling the audience, that later in her life she was in a long term health facility, for bipolar disorder and severe depression and also some physical issues. He said that his mother being in a facility like that introduced him to quality long term care, which became very important to him. Gingrich said his ideas on the brain issues, comes from his real life family problems.
Gingrich was then asked "if your mother was here today, what would she tell you?". He said she would be his number 1 fan, and she would be telling the whole audience to vote for him. She was very proud of her son and his work.
Gingrich's tears showed the audience, that he really does have a different side to him than that of when he is on stage during a debate saying some ridiculous things. One woman from the audience actually got up to give the speaker a tissue when he was done speaking.

Ron Paul Makes the Debate Moderator Look Dumb (Video)

At Monday's debate, the moderator asked Ron Paul about his plans for the military, that will eliminate a lot of jobs in South Carolina, at their seven military bases. Ron Paul just told him that he was really confused, because that is the exact opposite of what he wants to do. At this the audience started cracking up. Paul then goes on to explain that he wants to bring the troops home, and create a greater defense here at home instead of having all of our troops scattered over seas. This would save a lot of money and give the United States a much stronger National Defense.
Paul then points out that the military is mostly behind him, and he gets twice as much money as any other candidate from the active military. The military says that they Paul is right in what he proposes. The moderator then tries to reword his question, but Paul just said "No, you don't understand", this had the audience laughing again. Ron Paul then said that building an embassy in Baghdad is not defense spending its waste.
The moderator really was confused with his questions because Ron Paul says the same thing every time he is asked about the military, and it is not at all what the moderator thought it was.

Gingrich Interview Before SC (Video)

As the polls narrowed between Gingrich and Romney in South Carolina, Gingrich said that he will have the upper hand over Romney because he is much more conservative. Gingrich is then asked how he feels about being compared to Al Gore by Mitt Romney. Then we see a clip of Mitt Romney at a rally talking about how Gingrich always says he created hundreds of jobs with Ronald Reagan, but according to Romney the government doesnt create jobs private sectors do. That is when Romney says "that's like saying Al Gore created the internet!". Gingrich basically just responds by saying that Mitt Romney doesn't really know what he's talking about because he didn't want to have anything to do with the Reagan-Bush administration.
Newt Gingrich then said that he thinks "Romney will do or say anything". Some of Gingrich's friends wrote in a magazine, that "Gingrich is a candidate out for a strong vengeance, rather than one working with a coherent strategy aimed at winning a race. The sense is he's just lashing out." Thats pretty bad if you ask me, that his own friends would say that about his campaign. Gingrich just said he does not lash out, and then brought up how he won monday nights debate. I'm so tired of him never fully answering or commenting on the full question! Although the polls may have narrowed, Gingrich still has quite a lot of competition in South Carolina, Thank God!

Ron Paul Can Beat Romney and Obama (Video)

The video opens up by saying that Ron Paul is a serious candidate. He came in second in New Hampshire and third in Iowa. But one of the best things he has going is his supporters. His supporters support him even when he doesn't win. They are not like some of the other backers that will just switch to the winning candidate. Paul appeals the most to the young libertarians. Many people are saying that they think Ron Paul with run as a third party candidate, but he denies this being true. One man said "if not Ron Paul then I will not vote".
The video then addresses that many people are already saying its going to be an Obama-Romney race, but this is not true. We are only two primaries in, and Ron Paul has a lot of supporters. The video then shows a clip of Sarah Palin saying that Ron Paul addresses the issues the Americans really need addressed, and in the way they need it.
Then it shows a clip of a Ron Paul Rally, and it is a bunch of younger people, mostly college students going wild over Ron Paul. This is not the usual, most college students are not even democrats, but something about this 76 year old man really excites the kids. The reporter says Ron Paul is not only a force, he is a phenomenon".
Another interesting fact mentioned in the video was that more military support goes to Ron Paul than any other candidate. Ron Paul plans to bring home the troops, and build the defense here, instead of over seas. Romney is receiving all of the votes from the unmarried people, lower income people, and the new voters in the GOP primaries. Ron Paul is a force to be reckoned with, and the other candidate must start to take him seriously, because he will be a top competitor in the race.

What Romney Wants (Video)

The interview takes place at the University of South Carolina. The interview opens with asking Romney how it makes him feel that since 1980 the winner of South Carolina has won the election. Romney said this is exciting, and he hopes to keep that trend alive. Romney then goes into saying that he will not only be able to handle Obama, but that it excites him. The interviewer tells Romney that with Romneycare, obviously drawn from Obamacare, it sounds to many people that the two are very similar. Romney then does a good explanation of why the two are so different, promising that the two "will take the nation in opposite directions". Romney speaks about how he is more qualified than Obama and has had first hand experience in the private sector.
The interviewer then asked what exactly is the Romney Plan? Romney says he wants people to understand that the government cannot give everyone jobs, it has to be buisnesses (large and small). But he wants to take the pressure off buisnesses, that the Obama administration put there. He says that he wants "America to be the most attractive place in the world for buisness makers and innovators. He wants to open new markets for American goods and crack down "on cheaters like china" that are "stealing" jobs from Americans.
He said he wants to give the people that they were promised by Obama, that never came. He said he can really bring the people hope and change, when obviously Obama couldn't since he's been elected. Romney gave good answers in this interview and could very well take South Carolina just like he did New Hampshire and Iowa, but we will have to wait and see!

The Claws Are Even Coming Out Between Friends

In Thursdays debate Mr. Gingrich called upon Santorum to help him attack Romney on his abortion ideas. Santorum did attack Romney, but then he unexpectedly turned around and attacked Gingrich. Santorum used Gingrich's own time to attack his devotion to the cause. Being that Gingrich and Santorum were good friends, this was an interesting time. It showed that Santorum was really serious, and will not allow anything to get in his way of becoming the Republican candidate for 2012. The two men will have a long battle on Saturday in South Carolina because both are appealing to the same group of Conservative Evangelical Christians. Both Men are hoping to win this group because it evangelicals make up 60% of the state. Whichever man loses will feel the pressure to drop out. Frank Luntz, a long time friend to Santorum and an advisor to Gingrich says, "If they both stay in, they both lose. One of them has to go, but they both have the right to stay in."
Both men hold very similar political views. Both call for less government and lower taxes. The only thing that separates the two, is Rick draws a little more from the hard-core social conservatives, on things such as gay marriage, while Newt draws more from the economic freedom side of it. Other than that, the two are basically the same person!
Santorum said "Newts a friend, I love him!", but thats not what it sounded like during the debate. The two were tearing each other up, from their thoughts/ideas to their qualifications. It got pretty brutal, especially considering that they are friends. It is still very likely that after all of this they will end up working together again.

Straight From the Elephants Mouth

As we all know, most of what we end up hearing from the candidates is them attacking each other. The Charleston City Paper wanted to give their South Carolina voters a little more about the candidates actual politics. The paper asked each candidate to write a short letter explaining what they will do to directly appeal to the South Carolina Voters.
John Huntsman wrote to them about wanting to break up too-big-to-fail banks and making the derivatives market more transparent to prevent a repeat of the Great Recession,  lowering the income and corporate tax rates, and establishing congressional term limits. Obviously since then, Huntsman has dropped out of the race, but the South Carolina voters seemed pretty pleased with what he proposed.
Rick Perry told the South Carolina voters he wanted to make Washington inconsequential by eliminating earmarks and making congress a part-time job. Rick Perry tells congress. Get a Job! Perry has also dropped out since his statement.
In Rick Santorums letter he told the voters that plans to tell Iran to open its nuclear weapon facilities for inspection, under the threat of bombing. He also will reject climate change science. Many people commented on this article, saying they agree that Global Warming is a scam, and they are happy someone wants to put an end to it.
If Newt Gingrich gets elected he plans to cut the cost of Medicare and Medicaid, defund the National Labor Relations Board. He also plans to challenge Obama to a series of Lincoln-style debates. The South Carolina voters had a lot of negative criticisms about Gingrich's plans.
Ron Paul told the South Carolina voters that he plans to adopt a non-interventionist foreign policy. He would like to make massive cuts in the federal government, including the elimination of the department of education. He also plans to eliminate income, capital gains, and death taxes. There was a mixed review of Paul's plans by the voters.
Mitt Romney, the current front runner in the race said his plans consist of creating a " Reagan economic zone" for free international trade He wants to designate China a currency manipulator and deregulate fracking. The South Carolina voters seemed to like Romney's plan.
There was a poll at the bottom of the article, and currently Ron Paul is in the lead with 69% of the votes.

Gingrich the Casanova

In a recent interview with Newt Gingrich's ex-wife Marianne,  she revealed some shocking details about his first marriage, as well as her marriage to him. Marianne tells us that she had an affair with Gingrich while he was married to his first wife, Jackie Gingrich. Jackie was diagnosed with cancer not long before Gingrich filed for divorce. A former aide to Gingrich, told the reporters that according to Mr. Gingrich, Jackie was not young and pretty enough for him. Marianne also reveals that he proposed to her before they were even broken up.
The couples marriage lasted for 19 years and ended just a few weeks after Marianne was  diagnosed with MS. Gingrich told her that he was seeing a woman named Callista, and wanted to have an open marriage. Gingrich said that Callista would help him win the presidency. Marianne refused the offer of an open marriage, because in her opinion that is not really a marriage. Gingrich replied with, "Callista doesn't care what I do". The divorce was filed for within days after this conversation.
Gingrich has made public apologies for his actions in the past, but that does not heal the wound for everybody. When his former wife's statement was brought up in last nights debate, it was obvious that Gingrich was not happy. Gingrich called them 'close to despicable' for dwelling on his past marriages.
Gingrich's two daughters from his first marriage wrote a letter to ABC news talking about the pain the divorce caused for everyone involved. They continued to say that their fathers past marriages have nothing to do with the race or even his character.
All Gingrich really said on the matter was: "I found that I felt compelled to seek God's forgiveness. Not God's understanding, but God's forgiveness". I am not quite sure that that will be enough to ease the voters minds about the Gingrich's past.

Gingrich and the Art of Racial Politics (Video)

On Martin Luther King Day, Juan Williams, a black man, could not have chosen a better day to ask Newt Gingrich about his recent statement about black people and poor people. Recently Gingrich said "black americans should demand jobs, not food stamps, and that poor kids do not understand work ethic because of the example set by their parents". Williams asked Gingrich if he could see how this could be insulting to all Americans but black Americans in particular, and Gingrich said that he did not see that at all. Gingrich then went into a long story about how his daughter was a janitor and one of his supporters made donuts when they were 11... which all sounded a little made up to me.. but whatever. Gingrich did not seem happy that he was being questioned about what he said, but it certainly is not something that can go untouched. Gingrich often refers to Obama as the "Foodstamp King"! But he again says that this is not racist because it is supported by facts. (More Americans are receiving foodstamps than ever). It sounded to me like Gingrich had the audience on his side by the end of his speech, when he said his only intent was to create more jobs for Americans, and give the children a chance to help their family. I'm not quite sure, but I'm thinking that the audience didn't realize that Gingrich did not touch on the fact that he said black people specifically should demand jobs.. This is not an okay thing to say. There are plenty of people of different races that use foodstamps. So since Gingrich likes to say he only uses facts, maybe he should check the facts on that one, because to me there is no other reason behind what he said other than racism.

Romney Calls Voters, With an Old Message From Santorum

After Santorum left the race in 2008, he threw his support behind Mitt Romney, and now its being used against him. Romney has called all of the South Carolina Voters with this message:

AUDIO TEXT: “This is an urgent message from the Romney campaign. In 2008, Rick Santorum made the following announcement on Laura Ingraham’s radio program.”
LAURA INGRAHAM: “Joining us now with an important announcement, you’re not going to want to miss this, former senator from the great state of Pennsylvania, Rick Santorum.”
RICK SANTORUM: “If you’re a conservative, there really is only one place to go right now. I would even argue farther than that. If you’re a Republican, if you’re a Republican in the broadest sense, there is only one place to go right now, and that’s Mitt Romney.”
LAURA INGRAHAM: “Senator Rick Santorum endorsing Mitt Romney unequivocally, without hesitation, that should mean something to all of you. Senator Santorum, thank you so much.”
AUDIO TEXT: “This call was paid for by Romney For President, Inc.”
So unless the voters pay perfect attention, it sounds like Santorum is saying that Romney is the best candidate for the Republican Nominee. Obviously if people pay attention they will realize this is just a little trick, and that this is obviously not the way that Santorum feels, but I am sure this will fool quite a few people. I bet Santorum is really regretting ever supporting Mitt Romney now...

Who Cares What Religion Romney is!?

Not South Carolina, not this time. In the 2008 election, Romney was attacked about his being a mormon every chance the other candidates could get, and the primarily evangelical christian population hated the thought of Romney (a mormon) becoming the president. But not this year, now all the South Carolina voters care about is making sure the Republican candidate is someone who can beat Obama. Although some voters still admitted that they would rather their president share their same religious beliefs, many voters told the reporters that it was not a factor in  the election, not when there is so much at stake. Adam Bach a 32 year old evangelical christian lawyer said, "people have become more comfortable with the mormon issue since 2008. What excites me about Romney is his experience in the corporate world and his recognition that the federal government needs to be cut down to size and reshuffled". FINALLY! People are interested in candidates credentials and their plans for this country, instead of their religion and how many times they have been divorced. Those things do not matter, and I am glad that people are starting to look past the candidates personal life and into their political ideology. Louise Quinn, 81 said it best: "his mormonism is irrelevant, I wouldn't care if he was an atheist!"

Bye Bye Perry!

This morning at the Hyatt airport hotel, Rick Perry announced he was dropping out of the 2012 Presidential Race. Perry called it a "strategic retreat", but the only strategy involved was the fact that he basically no money left. He was originally scheduled to make his announcement in a Marriott Hotel Conference Room, but due to the expense, he ended up in the Hyatt just a few miles from the airport in South Carolina. By this week, the group was so out of money that they had their spokesperson doing their driving and their huge bus became a ten person van. Perry did not use his funds wisely, and he mad too man people angry too soon, which lost him a lot of chances of receiving donations.
Not that I am at all complaining, but I am surprised that he actually dropped out, when just a few days ago he promised his few supporters, "When I got a target in my sight I don't give up, I've never quit a day in my life in the face of adversity". Well, i guess there's a first time for everything, huh Rick Perry?
Withdrawing from the race was absolutely the smartest choice for Perry, even his few supporters and his campaign team said he had no chance of winning when they were interviewed.
On monday, Perry hinted at his thought of perhaps dropping out, by saying he wouldn't mind if it was all over, as long as he had his wife by his side, which is the one thing he did have left today. After his announcement, he kissed his wife and walked off stage without taking questions. The last thing he said before leaving the stage was that he was throwing his support behind Newt Gingrich, what a surprise...

Romney Needs to be Ready to Rumble

After his Iowa win by only 8 votes, Romney must be ready to fight in the continuing states. Next is New Hampshire, where Romney is currently the favorite, but following New Hampshire is South Carolina, where the voters are more socially conservative. To no surprise, after his Iowa win, Romney is feeling the heat from his rivals, and with such a small win over Santorum, he has no time to relax. The support he has from John McCain will help him in New Hampshire and the support from South Carolina Governor, Nikki Haley might be enough in South Carolina, but the other candidates are working hard too. Romney was under the impression that his biggest competitors would be Gingrich and Perry so their fourth and fifth place finish, came as a pleasant surprise to him. Mitt Romney must be on top of his game to stay on top of the polls in the coming states, because the race is really on now.

Thanks, But No Thanks McCain...

On Wednesday former Republican Presidential candidate, John McCain announced that he is fully supporting Mitt Romney in the race. Huntsman responds to this news with, "You can get all the Doles and all the McCains in the world - as Romney probably will. But in the end, nobody cares." Which bring us to the question, is McCains endorsement going to help or hurt Romney? Most seem to think that the decades of political baggage that McCain bring to the table will be enough to turn some voters away, but some think that McCains strong support from New Hampshire, will be a great help to Romney. Many Republicans have a strong mistrust for McCain, which might weaken Romney's chances. McCains endorsement is providing Romney's rivals with some strong ammunition, claiming that he is an unreliable conservative that cannot be trusted on the big issues. McCain is back with the same corny jokes he had in 2008, but now its 2012 and clearly the Republicans need something different than what they had in 2008 to defeat President Obama.

High School Students Confront Santorum

Friday afternoon, Santorum visited Dublin High School in New Hampshire and faced a semi hostile crowd of mostly students as well as some people from the area. Santorum had planned to talk mostly about Obamas health care program, but to his surprise, the students were more interested in talking about social topics.
One student asked if gays and lesbians should be aloud to fight in the military and get married. Santorum responded by saying that DADT should be reinstated and that a marriage is between a man and a woman, for the purpose of procreation. Another Student told Santorum that her brother is handicapped, and that they need government aid to help take care of him. Santorum simply said that he has a handicapped daughter and "they manage". He also suggested that her friends, neighbors, and church should help bear the expenses of her brother. Finally a young girl opened up about being sexually abused and explaining how important it is for a woman to be able to choose. Santorum surprised the girl by saying that he would not ban contraceptives. When asked how the students feel about the candidates answers afterward, the last girl was the only one of the three that was satisfied.
